Rabbits were introduced to Australia in 1788 on the first fleet as a source of food and for sport. They rapidly bred and have been a major factor in native species loss due to overgrazing of plague regulations.
While an introduced pest, I consider them an Australian species as they are now a permanent part of the ecosystem. This rabbit was sculpted from the wild rabbits living around the ANU School of Art and Design.
